
Dr. Karina Hernandez
Karina Hernandez serves as Dean of Digital Learning at Austin Community College, where she leads initiatives that advance student success through digital learning, workforce-aligned pathways, microcredentials, learning recognition, accessibility, instructional innovation, and emerging technologies.
Since joining ACC in 2013, she has served in several academic and leadership roles, including Professor of Computer Science, Assistant Dean of Computer Science and Information Technology, Associate Dean of Digital Fluency and Innovation, and Dean of Digital Learning.
She has led the development of innovative learning pathways, artificial intelligence initiatives, and student-centered programs designed to support learner engagement, persistence, and completion.
Prior to joining ACC, Karina spent 13 years at IBM working in microprocessor development and verification, contributing to advanced computing technologies while collaborating with global engineering teams.
Karina is passionate about creating innovative, accessible, and flexible learning opportunities that help learners build meaningful skills, achieve their educational goals, and prepare for the future of work.
She holds a doctoral degree in Computing from Pace University, a Master of Science in Computer Science from the University of Tulsa, and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from her home country Venezuela.
